HENDERSONVILLE, ASHEVILLE, BILTMORE ESTATE, AND WATERFALLS

Here in the Mountains are many waterfalls and with all the rain they are beautiful. This is the Hooker Falls in DuPont State Forest. (Pic below) we had our picnic lunch some butterflies were playing there (it looks like Brighton found some friends)

Since I am not able to jump on logs Linda jumped on this tree stump. She's acting like a "spring chicken".
(Below) we went to Brevard N.C. to see the white squirrels
We stopped by a double falls (Connestee  Falls) This picture only shows one of them the other one was underneath us and we could not get a picture of both at the same time.

Below  Duncan and Linda Blake some of our friends in Fort Myers that left over 17 years ago to move up here. We had a wonderful dinner and visit at there home.

This is Carl Sandburg home in Flat Rock N.C. He won Pulitzer Prise for his poetry and History on Abe Lincoln. He sang, wrote songs, film consultant, was best known for speaking up for the common man. They raised goats on this farm, they had a large pond on the farm, and several walking path which some had steep walkways.  We were both able to use our walking sticks.

The next four pictures are of the Grove Inn in Asheville.  It was also built around 1900's. The rear of the building overlooked a golf course. In the lounge there were two large fireplaces.

We got tickets to visit the Biltmore Estates. We found out that you can go at 4 p.m. the day before and we did.  It was an exhausting 2 days but we saw alot and enjoyed everything. Below are lots of pictures of the estates. Three of the areas Biltmore Home, The Inn, and the livestock area which is now the winey area.

Above the detail on the estates and below some of the statues

Above orchids in the gardens and below lily pads in the pond.

We drove into Hendersonville N.C. as you can see below they have painted many bears along Main Street.

There were many unique shops here a ice cream shop. Below the courthouse, a church, and a waterfall going out of town.
The HENDERSON COURTHOUSE with "Lady Justice" (greek goddess of Divine Justice and Law) is one of three courthouses in the country without the blindfold to signify that Justice should be impartial.  The Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 10,1979.

We were able to get tickets to Les Miserables. The play was wonderful one of the best ones we have seen. Later that night they had a bluegrass band downtown. There was two bands that played an hour each.

Then the next night there was a car show and a concert.  I could get use to free stuff.
On Tues. we drove to Asheville N.C. We did a walking tour and ate at Tupelo Honey Cafe.

Grove Arcade one of the largest shopping arcades was to be 14 stores tall.  When Grove died and the great depression came they only made it four stories.

Wilmington Ohio to Hendersonville N.C.

Friday we went to the Dr. for my 2 week check up.  He was great, took his time with us and answered  many questions we had.  One of the questions was what is a tear?  Let me see if I can  tell you as he did.  The arteries to the heart have 3 layers and the inside layer tore and caused the plaque to block the blood.  We will be having our 6 month checkup in Nashville. After the visit we drove downtown saw the old hotel and some of the pictures drawn on the buildings.

On our way to N.C. we spent the night in Mount Vernon Ky.  They had a group of houses they have collected from all over the Renfro Valley.

On our way in N. C. we saw what look like a sky mountain, we went through two tunnels, and up and down many mountains. We are in Hendersonville N.C. for the next month.  We have a site near the office which is nice we get wifi from there.
