FAIR PLAY SOUTH CAROLINA

Thur. We started off good then when we went to get propane I noticed the goose neck was 3 inches above the fifth wheel.  It took us awhile to figure out what to do but we got it fixed and had a great trip to Fair Play which is just 4 miles inside S.C.  After we got here we found out the Anderson was having a free block party.  We went back to the office to get our card holder and while talking to the gard a 65 foot maple tree fell o the road where we just walked. We left for Anderson  a 25 mile trip we found the tourist info place.  The town has painted fish(much like the bulls in Elkhart In.) all over we took pictures of alot of them.  Then we ate at a local restaurant the pizza was great and then listen to the jass music at the block party. Alot of the folks were dancing and some of the kids were break dancing. After we got home we walked down to the lake.  It is about 15 feet low and the clime back up to the sight was like climbing a mountain.

Fri. I got a cold and rested all day and Linda cooked.  We went to a pot luck that the campgrounds had.  There were about 20 people that came.  Afterward they had pop corn and a movie.  Sat. we went to a farmers market (the fresh produce is delicious for we had some for dinner), then went out for breakfast the place looked like someones home but the food was well priced and taste great.
Then we went for a ride around the lake, had lunch at a overlook, and visited the Hartwell dam.

Sun.  We went to church at Seneca C.of C. it is about  a 35 min. drive.  The ride up nd daown the road was beautful then back to the rig. After lunch we looked at maps and broshers to find the best route for the water falls. We got invited to some home made S.C. peach ice cream after dinner boy was it gooooooooood.

Mon. This is a day we have been wating for for a long time. We went on a tour of some of the water falls in S.C. The first one Yellow Branch Falls was to be 1.3 miles off the road. We spent 2 hr and 15 min. in the Sumter Natl. Forest getting there and back. The 60 foot cascades were wonderful. Linda was fasinated with all the types of mushrooms.

The second Falls we saw from above was Issaqueena Falls. It was named that for an indian maiden who hid on a ledge to avoid capture as she fled to warn her english lover of a indian attack. Next to the falls was the Stumphouse Tunnel. A tunnel started 1853 to go thru the mt. and connect Anderson S.C. to Knoxville Tn. with a direct line. Lack of funds and the civil war stopped the 1,500 Irish miners short, they went 1600 feet of the 5863.

The last falls King Creek Falls took 1 hr and 30 min. a 70 foot cascade we went up and down hills, blocked paths, rooted paths, bridges and thru creeks to get to the most beautiful falls I have ever seen. After we got there one of us did not want to go into the water (to cold) and the next day one of us was very sore in the legs and had a hard time walking. I will have to admit it was me!!!!  And I'm updating this now, it is Wed. and we both were introduced to chiggers in the worst places!!!!!!!

Wed. We started going to Greenville but changed our minds and went to Pendleton where there were many homes built in the late 1800s. An old store, old churches and grave yards around them. Best of all was a the Village Baker where we had to stop. We had some awesome pastries and coffee. Want to go back if time allows!!!  We went to S. C. Botanical Gardens. We stoped by the Fran Hanson visitor Center and Campbell Geology Museum. We enjoyed a time looking at many types of rocks and gems. You went in this dark room where they had glowing rocks. Hard to explain but it was very cool.We walke  The Botanical Gardens is on the grounds of Clemson University which had a section of where the cadets went to training there. They had a caboose which represented the class of 1938 and the class of 1942 they had a heritage garden; the cruible then to a butterfly area.By now it is 98 degrees and were very hot.  Much more to see outside but will have to be another time.

We went to Clemson University found they make there own feda cheese. The University is large and most of the folks walk.    On our way home we stopped bySplit Creek Farm, a goat farm. They had many goats and chickens. There cheese was voted one of  the best in the world. They have received many awards and ribbons for there goat products.  We tasted some and just had to bring some home. For dinner Linda made a grilled cheese sandwich only it was grilled goat feda cheese!!!!!The farmer told us to go home and try it and it was delicious!!!!!!  We also bought some goat fudge and a raspberry pecan goat cheeseball which we will enjoy later.

We were able to keep the truck hitched to the 5th wheel.  On Fri. we drove to Macon Ga.  We drove into Macon Ga. to see the history of Macon. We saw many old homes. There shape and designs were very interesting. We went to Joshua coffee shop for muffin and coffee. They make their own coffees with special flavors using flavored oils etc. So good you know we had to buy some.  The flavor was White choc.raspberry truffle. Visited Wesleyan College, went to a B/B "1842 Inn" (the lady at the desk took us through the house it was neat to see all the rooms decorated in different ways), saw Bond St. where there were alot more of the old homes Hay House was one of them, and went to High St. Church. We left there and went to a peach orchard. We had peach cobbler (as Lin said to die for) and peach ice cream. On the way home at Piggly Wiggly they had a fund raiser for MD. I had a thick hamburger and Linda had a hot dog with cole slaw, pepper jack cheese, and bacon.

We went in the afternoon to see Joshua,s new business. Wed. we got up and enjoyed the view of the RV as we did our bible study then we went and spent the day with Carol.  She had a therapist come in so we got to hear what she had to say.
