Towns around Marshall

Thur. this was the last day of the workshop. We got up at 6:30 to help with the refreshment committee. At noon we had our big hug then 11 of went to Fugler's Gro. and meat for a famous "big bubba burger". It was 3/4lb.  We split it!!! We then went to the Marshall pottery. Later that night we played hand and foot and a new game " pegs and jokers".
 


Fri. We got up late had breakfast did laundry and washed truck.  We then went to the train Depot and watched as the old steam locomotive came in for display this weekend.It was the last steam locomotive made for the Union Pacific railroad. No.844 called 'The Legend". After dinner more cards and snacks.
 Sat. We drove to Tyler Tx. We went to Chamblee's Rose Nursery where they told us how to graft roses and grow the many varieties of roses that they get  from Germany ,England,Africa etc.  They grow alot for the Biltmore Mansion in Ashville SC. .  They showed us around their nursery and the different stages of the roses.
Then we went to the rose garden and museum. This year was the"Year of the Dragon". They had a tea party where many of the girls were in there beautiful gowns. We walked thru the gardens and saw many different colors of roses.  Inside they had more of the girls in there gowns.

 


 












We then drove to a old mansion called Goodman-LeGrand Museum.  Some of the girls dressed back in the time and one of them told the story of the folks who lived in the house. Outside we got with another couple and went on the horse and carriage ride.
 


When we left there we went to a senior care place where they had some of the gowns from the past on display.





 Sun. was a resting day. Went to morning and evening service, ate at Jucys and sundaes at Burger King.  Mon went to Shreveport La.

this car was made in La. 1922-24 it was made for the roads and getting around in the back county of La.

they think this is the only car left out of all of them that were made


This is the restaurant we ate at called the"Blind Tiger" because during prohibition they would put a tiger on the table and those who wanted to go to the back room would ask and they could get the hard liquor then

many famous people have eaten there and have left there sign pictures

This is the 8th Air Force Museum at Barksdale Air Force Base from ww1 to present. Each plane gave a description like this one and the plane is below.

After we got home we played cards and the girls won.Tues.We drove to Kilgore Tx.where the million dollar acre is.  They had oil rigs everywhere in town and they produced many barrel of oil a day.

We then went to the east Texas Oil Museum at Kilgore College. Inside they had a town with the muddy streets and stores from the early 30's. The town went from 7 wells every two weeks to 7 a day to one hundred and more a day.  The price went from $1.10 a barrel to 15 cents and they produced a million barrels a day today it has produce over 6 billion barrels of oil.


This is the world famous world class Kilgore College Rangerettes. Organized in 1940 to have a half time program at the football games.  They have gone all over the world, been on the Ed Sullivan Show, cotton bowl, and have made appearances with many famous leaders and actors.

After we got home we washed the truck and 5th wheel and Linda did laundry.  We played cards and the guys won. Wed. we slept in, helped at the office, cleaned the 5th wheel inside and got everything ready for leaving on Thur. At 1pm we went and did a devo with the folks in the park.
